One of our core goals as we head into the future of the State of Decay franchise is to bring quality to the forefront, ensuring the gaming experiences that our players have come to expect from us are as smooth and clean as possible. To accomplish this, the State of Decay 3 team is looking for an experienced, self-motivated, and passionate Quality Assurance Lead who is dedicated to quality. As we seek to represent all types of players in our game we welcome a broad and diverse set of applicants to help us build with that in mind.


As QA Lead, your main responsibilities will include advocating for QA needs as it relates to the customer experience, advancing our quality standards and best-practices, and coordinating with both internal and external teams to deliver high-quality player experiences. You will outline risk and scope of feature work to create detailed plans for QA as we move through the life cycle of the project, and work to foster a culture of quality-first within the project and on your team. 


Responsibilities & Objectives

  • Work with the testing team to ensure major features and components are tested at the appropriate level and follow guidelines and best practices
  • Debug features; report on bugs and issues
  • Execute, create, and analyze test plans and test cases for various test scenarios
  • Create, maintain, and update QA processes and documentation
  • Direct tasking of internal and external QA testers
  • Advocate for QA needs with other development teams
  • Make capacity decisions to maintain momentum and hit quality bars 
  • Define scope and risk of testing in projects
  • Raise risks to appropriate people, and assist with potential risk management ideas 
  • Assist in creating a team environment where all team members feel inspired, valued, and successful
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional group of developers to drive high quality
  • Champion quality as a top priority for the studio


Skills, Knowledge, Experience (Core Traits)

  • Proactive; anticipates and addresses future problems and needs 
  • Excellent collaborator that acts as a positive difference maker for the team’s success
  • Experience with test management tools
  • Experience writing test plans
  • Solid understanding of test strategies and methodologies
  • Customer-focused, empathetic to the players’ experience
  • Ideally brings 4+ years of QA testing experience
  • Ideally brings 1+ years of QA lead experience


Bonus Traits

  • Engine testing (specifically UE4)
  • Automation testing experience
  • Experience with Jira Cloud and JQL
  • Experience in game development with one or more shipped titles
  • Experience with the Atlassian suite of tools for Agile-style development


Physical Requirements

Close vision to monitors and screens, consistently working on computer equipment such as keyboards and monitors, long periods of sitting. Noise levels are low to moderate in the work environment.
